Introducing THE School Marketing Manifesto
Preamble:
When I named my business School Marketing Manifesto, I chose that word deliberately.
I didn't want to start just another consulting agency; I wanted to start a movement to radically elevate how marketing is viewed, respected, and executed in education.
Yet, ironically, in the five years since we launched, I’ve never actually published THE School Marketing Manifesto.
We’ve spent the last half-decade in the trenches - running retreats, building bespoke plans, speaking at events, and advising school leaders.
But as we celebrate our 5th birthday this month, the landscape is changing. So, to mark five years of rewriting the rules, it is finally time to put our flag in the ground.
Here is our official statement of intent for the future of school marketing.
This is The School Marketing Manifesto.
Bianca
We believe in the power of school marketing.
For too long, school marketing has been treated as an isolated, administrative afterthought.
Marketers in education are routinely restricted to reactive, tactical execution - buried under operational tasks, starved of resources, and excluded from the boardroom.
When marketing operates purely on a transactional level, schools stagnate and enrolment sustainability suffers.
The traditional model is broken. We are here to rewrite the rules.
But let’s be honest: a seat at the leadership table is earned, not given.
We cannot expect school leaders to grant executive influence to simple tactical execution.
If marketing wants to shape a school's strategic direction, it must bring more than just good intentions to the room. It requires commercial acumen, data-backed insight, and rigorous business strategy.
What we stand for
We stand for three non-negotiables:
An Earned Seat at the Leadership Table: Marketing must have a direct voice in governance. But to sit at that table, you must speak the language of leadership, understand the business of education, and add undeniable strategic value.
Rigorous Strategic Planning: No more guesswork. No more firefighting. Every school deserves a formalised, proactive marketing plan that drives measurable results… and every marketer must possess the skill to build it.
Deep Investment in Professional Talent: We are building an industry where marketing for a school is one of the most coveted, respected career paths for top-tier professionals. That means schools must fund high-level development, and marketers must fiercely commit to continuous upskilling.
Strategic marketers aren't born. They are developed through experience, education, curiosity, challenge and a commitment to continually improving their craft.
Our Call to Action
To school leaders: Stop underestimating what strategic marketing can do. Stop funding isolated tactics while starving strategy. When you have a marketer who understands the business of your school, trust their expertise, invest in their growth, and give them a seat at the leadership table.
To school marketers: Commit to excellence. Do not just demand a seat at the table - work for it. Step up from being a technician to being a strategist. Commit to developing your skills and learning how to contribute meaningfully to commercial, high-level discussions.
The reactive era is over.
The era of the strategic marketing leader is here.
Step up, master your craft, and claim your seat.
